Zygote does Siggraph

September 19, 2007

Today’s Siggraph’s “Computer Animation Festival” had a little surprise for the attendees. It was a simple yet amazingly innovative product.

Zygote Interactive Ball

“ZYGOTE is a lightweight inflated ball, illuminated from within, that responds to pressure applied to its surface. Interacting with the ball is simple: punch it, bounce it, squeeze it, or tap it and the ball’s internal LEDs react instantaneously.”

The first time I saw the ball in action was a couple weeks ago, he was a guest at the latest VFS Digital Design Assembly, and I was amazed with the simplicity of it, and at the same time the complex programming that goes on behind the scenes, I love that, when something looks so simple and has a quite complex system running to make it look simple.I was excited of being a part of this event. I was assigned to record this event, there were two of them, and even though the second screening of the Festival had more people, the fewer people in it actually got more involved in this experience, so much that the lights on the ceiling received some impacts, but nothing to worry about. After I finish the edit of the footage, I’ll post it here, this would be probably at the beginning of next week.

inspiration journal

I chose reminiscent as the name of this series of posts because it is indeed a reminder of my past year in Vancouver. I personally believe that reflects my growth from a person to a designer. It also reminds if my time before art school, when my close-to-nothing design knowledge guided my designs through some really fascinating experiments, that I will share with you in the next couple of days.

This is a series called “Inspiration Journal” because that was actually the name of the project, in which we had to choose three things, persons or situations that inspired us.

The first VFS Slam was hosted today, and it was so much fun, my team was conformed by Leah and Axel from DD08 and Hugh and Me from DD09. Our goal was to create a 30 seconds spot to try to gain the forgiveness and simpathy of the public after they screwed up by not putting any Vitamin C in their Vitamin C product.

After receiving the brief we were provided a camera and a tripod to do so, we had a really tight schedule we had to lock the audio by 2 pm, and drop the movie before 5 pm of the same day, meaning that we had 8 hours to make a full working commercial that had to convey the message stated on the brief.

Here’s our spot.

After the showcase of the spots I literally jumped from the Theatre to the Bearpit, to participate in a Flash BitmapClass/3d double marathon with Paul Ortchanian designer and developer of reflektions.mnml
